Dennis H Harris

Ever since I was a young boy, growing up in Middle Tennessee, I have loved being outdoors. I loved baseball, hunting, fishing, hiking and just being outside. I had an interest in photography but had never tried painting. When I went to college, I pursued the technical areas with a degree in Math and Computer Science and later added an MBA. I decided to take an art course at a local Adult Education program and was fortunate to have Marion Cook as a teacher and later as a mentor. I fell in love with oil painting. I took some courses at Watkins Institute and other venues but really didn't have time to devote to painting. In 2012, I retired from a great career as VP of Information Systems at Genesco which has offered me an opportunity to see both a company and an industry (computer systems) constantly transform themselves over the 44 years I have been there.
I am a member of the Monthaven Art Society, the Chestnut Group of painters and the Dare County (NC) Art Council. I have really grown by the encouragement of my loving wife Susan and fellow artists. I am constantly learning and have benefited from the excellent teachings of artist like Dawn Whitelaw, Kevin Menck, Paula Frizbe, Dean Shelton, Jean Gauld-Jaeger, Gayle Levée, Frank Baggett and others.
I was recently honored to win Honorable Mention out of 35 artist entered in the 10th Annual World-Wide paintout competition at Radnor Lake in Nashville. This year I won the "You're So Nashville" award out of over 300 paintings at the Tomato Art Festival Show in Nashville.
I hope you enjoy sharing this experience with me as I post about what is happening in my art ventures on this website as well as on my professional FaceBook page at DennisHarrisFineArt.
